Under the direction of the Digestive Health System Clinical Program Director, the Bariatric Quality Coordinator/Navigator is responsible for oversight of the Bariatric program quality and accreditation standards and patient throughput.
This person will serve as the individual that is a liaison between the Bariatric Surgery program and the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBS-AQIP) along with assist in obtaining or maintaining centers of excellence (COE).
They will also assist patients through the preoperative and postoperative process.

Collaborates with physicians and staff to ensure compliance with registry specifications and center of excellence specifications:
Manages accreditation criteria to ensure program meets expectations set forth by governing agencies.
Maintains and ensures compliance of all policies and procedures that guide and support the assigned services.
These include, but are not limited to Joint Commission requirements, federal and state regulations, MBS-AQIP standards, regulatory standards, etc.
Collaborates on an ongoing basis with Medical Directors and Division Chief, program managers, providers, clinic staff and physicians, promoting positive communication techniques and the ability to problem solve at every level.
Works with Medical Directors and Division Chief to anticipate and identify the needs of the program center and creatively implements solutions to problems.
Integrates Evidence Based Practice into clinic and program hospital practice improvements.
Manage patients' status to ensure patients move through the process from seminar to surgery as efficiently as possible.
Be knowledgeable of insurance requirements for authorization for all payors, and facilitate preauthorization process.

Supports Clinical and Educational Needs of Patients, Families, Staff and Physicians:
Provides/coordinates orientation/education for center and hospital staff, students, and other hospitals and community organizations, as requested.
Provides patient/family or caregiver education and counseling in recognition and solution of physical, emotional, spiritual, and environmental health problems.
Utilizes hospital information systems to process orders/data and retrieve patient information.
Maintains knowledge of documentation requirements needed for patients? records including knowledge of computer applications.
Maintains confidentiality regarding all patient/personnel information.
Demonstrates effective teaching methods for multi-level individuals and/or groups for delivering effective personalized, patient-centered, family-focused outcomes and professional development of colleagues.
Ensures effective staff education, including orientation, focused education, and reinforcement education, to achieve performance outcomes for leading best practice and safe care.
Contributes to and supports Bariatric program staff, and educators through planning, implementing, and evaluating educational efforts and learning methods (i.
e.
, 1:
1 coaching, classroom lectures, power point presentations, e-learning, etc.
) Demonstrates effective problem identification and resolution.
Regularly evaluates programs, orientation, and staff development and identifies plans for improvement.
Provides consultation in specialty area to all levels of health care providers throughout the organization, affiliated schools of nursing, and the community.
Demonstrates an awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for own professional practice and development.
Triage patient intake history forms and outline needed preoperative appointments and consults, including those to meet insurance requirements, and any additional needed as indicated by patient history.
Review incoming clearances and diagnostic tests in a timely manner, and document in tracking.
Facilitates bi-weekly pre and post op support groups for patients.

Safety / Quality / Regulatory:
Facilitates work groups and quality improvement groups providing a structured framework for reviewing and measuring outcome metrics Serves as a resource to staff for MBS-AQIP and regulatory standards.
Facilitates quarterly Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MBS) Committee meetings with Medical Directors and Division Chief Works closely with entire bariatric care team on innovative projects to improve quality, safety and reliability and utilizes evidence-based practice in all improvement?s Identifies processes or areas where bottlenecks occurs and offers solutions for process improvement.

1 Actively participates/coordinates committees, task forces, and in work groups as needed/requested.

Monitors Clinical Outcomes:
Collaborates with MBS Clinical Reviewer to report program metrics as required Facilitates coordination of quarterly meetings to review outcome data Collaborates with Digestive Health System Administrator for Quality and Safety, DH Program Manager Director, and multidisciplinary team to identify opportunities for improvement Identifies and assists with implementation of tests of change to improve performance Collaborates with Medical Directors and Division Chief to establish performance improvement initiatives to improve outcomes and processes.

1 Collaborates with MBS Clinical Reviewer to report program metrics as required.

Ongoing Accreditation:
Completes/submits yearly Annual Credential reports to MBSAQIP Portal Registry,Submits/manage yearly annual program fees, Manages coordination of survey visits, including written materials, presentations, and staff preparation/coaching, Maintains survey readiness, Collaborates with system paid contract coordinator to obtain/maintain COE.

QualificationsEDUCATIONMinimum 3 years registered nurse experience.
Three years current experience in bariatrics.
Bachelor's degree required with master?s degree preferred.
Current CT state RN licensure required.
EXPERIENCEMinimum 3 years registered nurse experience.
Three years current experience in the area of bariatrics.
LICENSURELicensure/Certification:
CT RN License required.
Certified Bariatric Nurse (CBN) preferredSPECIAL SKILLSBariatric Specific Knowledge Required:
Patient Educator Knowledge of the preoperative multidisciplinary preoperative preparation of the patient Ability to develop written materials for patient education Knowledge of the types of bariatric surgery; risks and complications of each and expectations of each procedure.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Possession of a current license as a registered nurse Minimum of 3 years registered nurse experience.
Three years of current experience in the area of bariatrics preferred.
BLS for the Healthcare Provider certified Elevated level of interpersonal/communication skills to promote team approach.
Excellent written and verbal skills required.
