Director, Law - Cybersecurity & PrivacyThis attorney will join our in-house Cybersecurity and Privacy legal team.
The successful candidate will have a strong base in foundational data privacy and/or cybersecurity legal and regulatory requirements in order to contribute effectively to the company's operations.
This role assists senior Cybersecurity and Privacy attorneys in the overall management of the company's data privacy and cybersecurity approach.
In addition, it is essential for the candidate to understand the basics of telecom and adjacent technologies, or at least have a curiosity and drive to learn, to effectively provide guidance to the company's technical security teams.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide strategic counsel to business partners on matters related to data privacy and cybersecurity.
Partner effectively with and coordinate across business units, primarily including the company's information technology, network operations, engineering, product, customer operations, marketing and sales, advertising, and technical security teams.
Provide legal counsel to the business on data privacy and cyber-related incident response and internal investigations.
Ensure the organization maintains appropriate information security and privacy policies, procedures, playbooks, and other practices and processes cross-functionally.
Keep informed of changes and updates to industry-specific laws and regulations and ensure that appropriate risk management strategies are in place.
Work with senior in-house attorneys to proactively identify and address key legal and regulatory issues for management.
Play a pivotal role in drafting and participating in the company's data privacy and cybersecurity risk assessments.
Provide counsel to government affairs team with respect legislative and regulatory activity related to data privacy and cybersecurity.
Perform other duties as necessary.
Required Education and Professional License J.
D.
degree from an accredited law school.
Must be admitted to the Connecticut bar, or eligible for admission as in-house counsel in Connecticut.
Active license to practice law in at least one of the fifty states.
Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the U.
S.
Required Work Experience A minimum 7
years of experience as a practicing attorney in a law firm, in-house, or government environment, with a focus on privacy and/or cybersecurity issues.
Experience advising and counseling clients on privacy and cybersecurity issues, including privacy and/or cybersecurity compliance, incident response, risk assessment, and data privacy and cyber-related vendor risk management.
Background in cybersecurity, information technology, and/or data protection.
Preferred Experience/Credentials Possession of related certifications (e.
g.
, CISSP, CIPP).
Working Conditions Working on-site, in an office environment.
Must be willing to work long hours when necessary.
