Head of Casualty Pricing

Stamford, CT I Hartford, CT I New York, NY I USAWe are looking for a talented and motivated professional to join the North America Reinsurance Pricing & Analytics team at AXA XL.
In this role you will be responsible for pricing & analytics for US Casualty written in the US.
You will manage a team of 4 actuaries.
We write a variety of lines including general liability, umbrella, auto liability, D&O, E&O, medical malpractice, and Workers Compensation.
You will work closely with underwriters and have exposure to executive management.
You will directly support the US-based underwriting teams and will lead global projects for the lines of business.
As the lead Actuary supporting the US Casualty product, you will handle details of the strategic plan, compile portfolio profitability reviews, help determine profitability targets and coordinate those activities with other offices writing US Casualty risks.
You will be responsible for the development and maintenance of the core US Casualty pricing models used globally.
The North America region encompasses the US and Canada.
The Pricing & Analytics team partners directly with underwriting and executive management as we look to develop and deliver our strategic objectives.
DISCOVER your opportunityWhat will your essential responsibilities include? Provide pricing support to the underwriting team, conduct deal pricing and contribute during underwriting committees.
Perform own analyses and peer review work of others.
This involves reviewing statistical data and qualitative information to estimate underlying loss trends, rate changes, impacts from systemic events, ground-up and excess loss development factors, and ultimately develop an estimate of future profitability.
Enhance AXA XL s technical pricing and portfolio management capabilities by leading projects such as:
o Develop pricing methodologies (aligned to global strategies and standards) including algorithms, parameters/assumptions, impact analysis, and advanced pricing techniques, o Support development, testing and calibration of pricing tools.
Maintain technical pricing documentation and enforce pricing model governance.
o Use appropriate data sources to monitor and update industry benchmarks for rate change, trends, and loss development factors.
Utilise analytics/MI to drive superior business performance and provide decision making guidance throughout the underwriting process.
Evaluate profitability of key businesses in support of portfolio management and monitoring, strategy development, business planning, and to address concerns raised by management.
Train underwriters in pricing matters.
Ensure compliance with global pricing guidelines and drive appropriate consistency in pricing.
Gather UW data and analytics needs and work with UW to improve pricing reliability and process efficiency.
Work with Enterprise Risk Management and Capital Modeling teams to parameterize underwriting risk distributions and model tail events and adverse loss scenarios.
SHARE your talentWe re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
Qualified actuary - FCAS or similar with minimum of 10 years of experience.
Relevant pricing experience within the P&C reinsurance industry.
Candidates with substantial experience of reserving for reinsurance companies or pricing for commercial carriers will also be considered.
Robust ability to acquire technical knowledge and adapt to new environments quickly.
Excellent communication skills to build effective working relationships within and beyond the Pricing & Analytics team.
o Explain and translate actuarial concepts and outputs to stakeholders.
o Communicate difficult messages in a constructive manner.
o Able to work with actuarial and underwriting teams across geographies.
Ability to work under pressure and to manage multiple tasks and projects while responding to changing business priorities.
Ability to relate strategic business priorities to day-to-day activities.
Experience of managing small teams.
Ability to identify business needs and be creative to design and build solutions accordingly.

pay range for this position is USD $186,500 - $279,500.
Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual s skills, experience, and location.
