Key Responsibilities
Finance and
accounting
:
Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures. Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data
Oversees all accounts, ledgers, and reporting
systems
ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements
Consistently analyzes financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Assists leadership in the annual budgeting and planning process by establishing schedules, collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; create/produce internal reports (at the entity and departmental levels) which track actual results with a view to identify and explain variances as appropriate
Manages organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with the Office
manager
, CFO, and key functional staff (VP-Sales, etc)
Provides leadership in strengthening internal reporting with
management
and other key staff members

Compliance and Regulatory:
Works closely with outside tax accountants and advises management on desirable operational adjustments due to tax code revisions and/or new Hedgeye initiatives
Prepares reports required by regulatory agencies
Establishes relations with banks and other financial institutions
Advises management about insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities
Coordinates and prepares all necessary documentation related to dealings with the State of
connecticut
including, but not limited to, the DECD tax credit and loan
Monitors and evaluates the firm's 401k plan

Internal Controls and Processes:
Establish detailed monthly financial closing calendar and related procedures
Establish monthly accrual/reversal procedures; maintain monthly account analyses for all Balance Sheet accounts
Work with senior executives and outside accountants, establish and enforce adherence to a calendar of financial reporting and tax-compliance dates which is maintained and communicated throughout the company
Work closely with VP-Sales to ensure adherence to accrual procedures for Voting Revenues, ensure proper revenue recognition, by client, as determined by established voting calendar. Report variances resulting from voting estimates vs. actuals to senior staff
Maintain and enforce internal
control
and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and budget vs. actual expenditures. Establish straightforward processes with Sales staff which ensure billing accuracy and accountability
Requirements:
Skills Required
Keen analytic, organization and problem solving skills which allows for strategic data interpretation vs. simple data reporting
Ability to interpret financial needs often based upon limited information and/or specific direction
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, executive board, or other outside partners
Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential
Works well independently and as part of a team; pursues goals with purpose and persistence
Technology savvy with advanced knowledge of QuickBooks accounting and financial reporting software; as well as other accounting and financial reporting packages
Ability to understand sources and interrelationships of financial data, coupled with the resourcefulness to mine/manipulate that data (Excel pivot tables & filters, database, etc) in order to accomplish ad-hoc and periodic reporting requests

Education/Work Experience
Five to ten years of accounting and finance experience, ideally beginning in public accounting and audit, but including substantial practical private-industry experience gathering, evaluating, presenting and reporting financial information to executive teams and external stakeholders
Minimum of a BA; CPA and/or MBA preferred

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
